Stolen photos and clickbait headlines

Yesterday began with a very emotional blogger and friend reaching out to ask for urgent advice. Melissa is a wonderful gentle person, who achieved an amazing life goal last year. She had a completely natural home birth with her second daughter. Melissa shared a very moving article on it on her blog, Pretty Messy Melon. She also shared some personal photos to encourage, educate and engage other moms who might be considering a home birth. A friend sent her a screenshot of two photos and she was understandably horrified. The photos show Melissa, her husband and her new born baby just seconds after giving birth. The cover image of a terribly written article on clickbait publication, Babygaga. (more…)

7 myths about working with brands on content creation

Should I “accept” product in exchange for content creation? Do I send my rate card in response to every outreach from a PR company? Should I be demanding payment to share a photo of something somebody sent me in a media drop? Should I always ask for money? Am I personally ruining the blogging industry by doing trade exchanges? Does accepting a service in exchange for a review make me a “blegger”? If somebody pays me an admin fee for a review, does that mean they are paying for my opinion?

1. human beings collectively.

SA Sisterhood Supports Exclusive Digital Workshop

Two weeks ago, a friend of mine, Laverne, and I started a new venture in the form of creating a brand to support and inspire women in all avenues of their lives. The first aspect of this venture is the women’s only South African Sisterhood facebook group, which proudly engages over 9000 incredible women.

Shortly after this, an amazing woman I worked with back in my days as a PR professional, Suhaifa Naidoo (who just launched Mashup Marketing), approached me about an exclusive Digital Marketing & Business Solution Workshop happening on the 4th of November in Cape Town. This ties beautifully into our goal to help women to grow and develop in their careers and businesses, whether they work for a brand name business or run their own popular blogs. We, as the South African Sisterhood, are proud to be supporting Suhaifa in her digital marketing workshop. And she is excited to be supporting the women in our group by offering our South African Sisterhood members a 20% discount to attend!

Online Etiquette – Just hit reply

Just hit replyIf I were to share only one thing in building and maintaining a positive reputation and managing your brand, it would be this – just hit reply.

You wouldn’t think it would be necessary to write a post on something as simple as acknowledging and responding to a message or an email, but I am encountering this everywhere I turn.
